yay comic! I think that I have been reading too much of those end of the world theories and stuff, rapture was a fake (maybe?) and the next year we will see if the Mayans were right ( but I still vote for ragnarok)
Hehehe, it's funny all the stuff of the 2012 end of the world thing .
Just for general knowledge: the head you put at the center of the disc in the third panel is a representation of Tonatiuh, aztec god of the sun, with symbols that represent the need of blood for the sun to live (Celestia hides her hunger for blood pretty well xD).
This depiction comes from the Sun Stone, a disc that (contrary to general beliefs) is not a calendar; but a representation of aztecs cosmogony. It is believed that it was an altar for sacrifices or part of a ceremonial glass of stone.
No, but the people who studied their calendar and came up with the December 21, 2012 date did take leap years into account. The Maya long count calendar is basically just a count of days from some epoch. All they had to do was find an astronomical event that was cataloged by the Maya with a long count date that we could put a Gregorian date to, and count the days. What happens on December 21 isn't even the end of the long count. December 20 is the last day of the 13th b'ak'tun and December 21 is the first day of the 14th b'ak'tun. They didn't think the world would end.
